A QR code guests will actually use for event photos

A QR code is only the doorway. The experience after the scan decides whether anyone walks through it.

Choose the destination first

Decide whether the QR code should invite someone into the event group or open a specific shared gallery. Those are different actions. A FaceSort group invite can grant viewing or upload access depending on the owner's choice. A person-gallery share link opens only that person's matched photos and can be given an expiry or revoked.

Print the code only after testing the exact link it contains. A beautiful poster pointing to the wrong gallery creates more work than it saves.

Write one line of context

“Scan for photos” is vague. “Scan to join the wedding photo group” tells people what happens next. If they will need an account or be asked to add a face for personal discovery, say so. Honest instructions feel shorter than surprising ones.

Place the code where guests pause: near registration, the photo area, or a departure table. Keep a short written link beside it for anyone whose camera cannot scan the print.

Make access intentional

A printed code can travel far beyond the room. Choose the right role and expiry for the audience. FaceSort lets owners create one-time or reusable invite links, and changing a group's code can invalidate earlier invites. For a public person-gallery link, set a suitable expiry and revoke it if the audience changes.

Scan the finished print from a second phone, in ordinary venue light, before the event begins. The simple physical test catches tiny codes, poor contrast, and stale links.

THE PRACTICAL TAKEAWAY

A QR code should have one job. Decide whether it invites people into the group or opens a personal share, label the destination in plain language, choose its access and expiry, and test the final printed card from a second phone.
